On 16th October 2024, together with our member Plan International Ireland, we marked the International Day of the Girl Child with an Online Seminar on the education crises impacting girls in Sudan, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, and Afghanistan.

About

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on 11th October was established by the UN General Assembly. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

At our seminar, Girls in Crisis – The Impact of Conflict on Girls’ Learning experts from Education Cannot Wait, Plan International Ireland and Plan International Burkina Faso, and Save the Children Afghanistan as well as a Youth Advocate from Cameroon shared insights from their experiences, addressing the challenges faced by Sudanese girls living as refugees in Egypt, the education crises affecting girls in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, and the ongoing repression and its impact on girls’ education in Afghanistan.
