Established by the UN General Assembly to highlight the urgent need to safeguard education in conflict, this day takes on even greater importance in light of the global spike in attacks on education: between 2022 and 2023 alone, the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) recorded more than 6,000 attacks on students, teachers, and educational institutions—a 20% increase compared to previous years. And numbers from 2024 are expected to be higher.
Our distinguished speakers will introduce the topic, explore legal protections, highlight international efforts to protect education, and spotlight several country situations.
The seminar will also feature breakout sessions, giving participants the opportunity to discuss specific sub-topics.
