This week, INEW members had the pleasure of meeting with Maysa Jalbout, the new Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), during her visit to Ireland.
It was an engaging discussion covering ECW’s restructuring and improvements, their replenishment campaign, Ireland’s strong past commitments and future support, as well as key issues on the ground, including ECW’s commitments to localisation.
We were delighted to exchange perspectives and reaffirm our shared goal: ensuring that children affected by crises can continue learning. At a crucial moment for global education and education financing, we look forward to Maysa’s leadership in advancing access to education for all children, including those living through conflict, emergencies and climate disruptions.
Since its establishment in 2017, ECW has reached 14 million children in crisis contexts, with $1.68 billion raised to date. Irish civil society strongly calls on donors to support ECW’s $600 million replenishment goal so that more children can be reached at this critical time, as crises continue to spread globally and 85 Million crisis-affected children are out-of-school (ECW, Global Estimates 2025 Update).
Many thanks to Maysa and her team for such an empowering and constructive meeting.
