Our General Election Manifesto calls on voters to vote for realising the right to education for all worldwide. The 2024 elections present a critical moment to reaffirm our commitment to solidarity.
We ask the next government to make good on the promise made in 2015 to reach the UN target of spending 0.7% GNI on Official Development Assistance (ODA) by 2030. Acting on core Irish values to promote human rights and sustainable development, investing in overseas development and education for all is paramount to upholding these standards and strengthening global prosperity, equity, and stability.
Education is a human right and the cornerstone of progress in every society. The UNESCO has shown that investing in education, provides not only economic growth. It also combats poverty, prevents gender-based violence, improves health and well-being, and more.
We call for the following actions by the next Government:
- Increase Overseas Development Assistance towards Education.
- Realise Ireland’s Commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on ODA by 2030.
- Increase Climate Funding with a particular Focus on Education-Specific Projects.
- Sign the COP28 Declaration on the Common Agenda on Education & Climate Change.
- Advocate for Free Education for All on all International Policy Fora.
- Strengthen Education Financing through Tax and Debt Breakthroughs.
We encourage voters to research candidates’ stances on education and overseas development and demand with your vote:
- Invest in Overseas Development!
- Invest in Education For All!
- Create Positive Change Worldwide!
